Keeping Your Pets Cool in Summer
We need to stay cool in summer and so too do our pets. Here’s our top tips for furry, feathery friends.
1. Keep cool, make sure they have a cool and shaded place to rest and in extreme heat bring them indoors.
2. Prep your longhaired friends for the warmer season with regular haircuts. This will help them keep cool and be more comfortable in the heat and humidity.
3. Provide plenty of fresh water in large containers and check that they are full regulary. Leave them under the garden tap for a quick refil. You can even put cold water in their food to help them cool down.
4. Set up a small toddlers pool so they can dip in and out on hot days as they need. This will also provide another source of water for them on hot days.
5. Walk your furry friend in the early morning or evening when the temperature is at its lowest for the day. Hot pavements can cause serious damage to their paws, so avoid having your pets on hot concrete during the peak hours of the day.
6. Make ice treats for your pets to play with. Freeze treats in ice cube trays as toys that will help them stay entertained and cool at the same time.
7. Never leave your pet in a car when it’s warm.
8. Get the sprinkler going for some backyard fun with your pooch! It's a fun way to play and to cool off.
9. Take care of our wildlife, leave small bowls of water in your garden so wildlife can keep cool.
